Current status of this position: accepting applications

Tsukuba International School (TIS) offers an international education for children from age 3 to 16 (pre-kindergarten to Grade 10). We are an IB World School authorized to implement the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB). We are a candidate school for the Diploma Programme (DP) and we are currently working toward gaining authorization to offer the DP from August 2017. (Note that candidate status does not guarantee that authorization will be granted.)

We are currently seeking a full-time administrative assistant to start in May 2017 (or as soon as possible before or after that). Our school has experienced dramatic growth over the past decade, and with that growth comes the need for additional administrative support. In addition to acting as a point of reception for the school office, the successful candidate will take on a variety of administrative and logistical tasks, such as helping to manage our facilities, organizing our bus systems, and helping the staff members with personal tasks (e.g. rental contracts, household concerns, etc.). The position involves some driving, as the assistant will be required to run errands and pick up / drop off people at the local train station. As the school is a dynamic and fast-paced environment where the needs of the students, parents, staff, and others must be met to a high standard every day, the applicant will be required to be flexible, able to multi-task, and able to prioritize. (As this job is multifaceted, and the applicant will be required to help with a variety of projects and issues, this is not a comprehensive list of tasks or abilities.)

Pledge of Non-Discrimination

Tsukuba International School is an equal opportunity educator and employer. We will not discriminate against any student, prospective student, employee, or job applicant on the basis of race, color, gender, nationality, national origin, age, religion, creed, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. We will take measures to ensure against such discrimination in all of our services and practices.

The following are non-negotiable credentials for applying for this position.

  • Native-level Japanese proficiency.
  • High level of proficiency in English. This means the applicant should be able to understand and communicate clearly in English.
  • University degree.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid and up-to-date first aid and CPR certifications (or willing to obtain or update certification within a few months of starting)

NOTE: All successful candidates will be required to submit a criminal history background check, or similar, for all countries that they have worked in, as a condition of employment.

Range of Experience

We hope to find a candidate with the following range of experience.

  • Experience working in a school or educational organization (学校法人)
  • Experience working as an administrative assistant for an organization
  • Experience working with people from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds
  • Experience living in Japan (if non-Japanese), or living abroad (if Japanese).
