Archeological Site Open to Public

A site very close to the school is being examined for archeological artifacts. The name of the site is “Takasuka Nakadai Higashi” and it is located one intersection west of the school. Please see this map for the exact location.

The site will be open to the public next weekend.

Date: Saturday, February 26, 2011
Time: 10:30am to noon

At the site, you will be able to see the outlines of ancient houses and the artifacts that they have discovered in their digs (for example, you might be able to see cooking utensils, bowls, combs, etc.). The explanations are in Japanese, but last year there was someone there who could explain many things in English, so it should be worthwhile to go even if you cannot understand Japanese.

The Grade 5 students at TIS do a unit on archeology, so this event is recommended particularly for Grade 5/6 students, and also for Grade 4 students who will be studying it next year.

Results of the Second Annual TIS Spelling Bee

What an exciting morning we had yesterday! At 9:00am, the second annual TIS Spelling Bee started with the twelve contestants taking their seats in front of their classmates. The Spelling Bee went 14 rounds in total. The championship word, which a Grade 5 student spelled correctly, was “orthographize”. The winner will be going on to the Japan Times Bee on March 12, 2011. The winner of the Japan Time Bee will represent Japan in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in June 2011.
