1. Yume no Marutagoya ni Kurasu (夢の丸太小屋に暮らす)
This magazine will be available in stores from tomorrow (November 30). It includes a 6-page spread on the school starting from page 92. Also, it mentions that we won an award for “distinction” in the 2010 Japan Loghouse of the Year competition.

92年の創設以来、塾や高校、幼稚園などの空き教室を転々とした「つくばインターナショナルスクール」(TIS)が今春、念願だった自前の校舎をつくば市上郷にオープンする。新校舎は「外国人子女が国際水準の教育を受けられる学校に」と、昨年3月に教職を早期退職して運営を引き継いだ加納正康さん(58)が私財を投じて建築。人生の後半を地域と海外を結ぶ教育に捧げようと決めてから1年、新たな一歩が始まる。

One man’s dream gives science city of Tsukuba first official international schoolBy KEISUKE OKADA
Early last year, Masayasu Kano, a seasoned schoolteacher, quit his local private high school to take on a new challenge. He had only a couple years left until retirement.
The challenge was to create a world-class international school for the children of foreign nationals residing in the science city of Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, some 50 km northeast of Tokyo.
Late last month, the Ibaraki prefectural government gave final authorization for Kano’s international school — a specialized school institution, with Kano serving as its operator and principal. With that authorization, Kano moved a huge step closer toward meeting the challenge and realizing his dream.
